Baseball Players To Watch During 2010 Season

Fairhope,
AL (February 14, 2010) --
Daryl Norris, Fairhope:
The reigning Press-Register player of the year, Norris
went 8-3 with a 1.25 ERA and threw 5 complete games while
hitting .487 with 13 homers in 2009. He and teammate Garrett
Pitts, a shortstop, have signed with Mississippi State.
Patrick McGavin, Spanish
Fort:
An Alabama signee, McGavin pitches and plays first base.
He hit .380 with 5 homers last year and was 7-1 with a 2.05
ERA and 72 strikeouts.
Logan Kirkland, Bryant:
A slick-fielding shortstop, Kirkland earned 6A All-State
honors last year by hitting .489 with 35 RBIs and 12 steals.
Daniel McGiboney, Mary
Montgomery:
A crafty left-handed pitcher who has signed with South
Alabama, McGiboney led the Vikings to the 6A semifinals
season when he went 6-0 with a 1.83 ERA. He also hit .370
with 31 RBIs.
Dominick Francia, St. Paul's:
A speedy outfielder who has signed with
Louisiana-Lafayette, Francia hit .415 and stole 24 bases
last year as the Saints advanced to the 5A semifinals.
Lee Bush, Baldwin County:
Bush, a catcher, had 2 homers and 17 RBIs last season
and has signed with Faulkner State.
Jordan Patterson, Baker:
A three-sport standout, the 6-foot-4 left-hander went
6-2 with a 2.14 ERA last year while also hitting .337 with
17 RBIs. He has signed with Mississippi Gulf Coast Community
College.
Taylor Nichols, Faith
Academy:
An outstanding defensive player who has moved to
catcher, Nichols is considered one of the state's elite
juniors. He was 4-2 with a 1.69 ERA as a pitcher last
season, and his fastball has been clocked at 91 mph.
Brandon Hallford, Theodore:
Another big pitcher (6-foot-4), Hallford's fastball has
been clocked at nearly 90 mph. He won seven games and had a
2.69 ERA last year.
Trey Cockrell, Cottage Hill
Christian:
A speedy shortstop, Cockrell hit .495 and was 44 of 48
on stolen-base attempts last year when he made the 3A
All-State team. He had 12 doubles and 4 triples, giving him
a .706 slugging percentage.
Will Blount, Jackson:
A 6-3 left-hander, he returns after going 4-2 and adding
a save last year for an Aggies squad that lost to
Thomasville in the 4A quarterfinals.
Cole Welch, Excel:
A returning 2A All-State player, Welch hit .420 with 8
homers and 48 RBIs last year while going 6-2 with a 3.20
ERA. |
