Bay Minette,
AL (February 14, 2010) -- Coach Peter Bezeredi opens his
third season in charge of the Baldwin County High baseball
program with a lot of experienced players.
Bezeredi, who has led the Tigers
to back-to-back 20-14 seasons and playoff appearances, has
been putting his team through the preseason practices
despite weather troubles.
"Practice has been good -- we
have been focused on being consistent every day," Bezeredi
said. "That is our goal this year, to be more consistent.
"The weather has been horrendous
... seems like it rains every third day. And if not raining,
it's freezing cold. It's nice to have our indoor facilities
where we can get some work done inside when the weather
won't cooperate."
Lots of experienced players
return this year at the Bay Minette school.
"Demetrius Coley and Lee Bush
have been looking great in the preseason and Joe Devan has
been looking strong," Bezeredi said. "Jansen Boeschen has
played unbelievable in squad games and Justin Miller has,
too. I feel like we have a very well-rounded team."
Coley has been in the Tiger
lineup since his freshman year and the 6-foot-2, 220-pound
first baseman/pitcher has lots of power. So does Bush, who
begins his fifth year behind the plate at BCHS. Bush,
recently signed to play crosstown at Faulkner State next
year.
Boeschen is a multi-faceted
junior who can play most of the infield and pitch while
Miller was one of the top pitchers last year. Devan is a
junior utility guy that is also very versatile.
"I feel like we have a good mix
of young players and very experienced veterans," Bezeredi
said. "I feel like we have a roster filled with good
players. It will be tough deciding who will get the nod. We
have to get to the point where everybody's role is
established."
The Tiger coach has third
baseman Chris Andreoli back for his junior season after
hitting close to .300 last year and outfielders C.J. Stevens
and Curly Morrissette are also back.
"Both of them are outstanding
defensive outfielders," Bezeredi said.
Bezeredi welcomes transfer
sophomore Jordan Ebert to the lineup as he was one of
Fairhope's top hitters last year as a freshman.
"Jordan is a tremendously hard
worker and where he will play is still up in the air,"
Bezeredi said. "He is an unbelievably good pickup for us."
Bezeredi also mentioned seniors
Jarett Denton (outfield) , pitchers Jamie Graham, junior
Kheyton Byrd, senior Joel Johnson and sophomore
outfielder/pitcher John Austin Harville.
"Jacob Dean has been throwing
the ball well for us and Jake Swearingen is a young
sophomore catcher with an explosive arm," Bezeredi added. "I
am looking for big things out of him in the future.
"Tucker Miller has a chance to
get a lot of playing time. We also have Terrance Newsome and
Kristain Johnson. Johnson had off-season arm surgery and is
still working his way back."
The Tigers open in the Hank
Aaron Classic, playing Faith Academy at 4 p.m. Monday in
Fairhope. |
