AL (February 28, 2010) -- Daryl Norris (3-0) fanned
eight in a one-hitter and Chase Domino blasted a two-run
homer in Fairhope's 5-1 win over Cullman. In a 7-6 win over
Hartselle, Garrett Pitts drove in Kaleb Naseman with a
two-out double in the bottom of the eighth for the Pirates
(9-0), who host Daphne at 6:30 p.m. Friday.

THEODORE 15, MURPHY 10: Theodore
Bobcats power past Murphy Panthers in baseball - Theodore
blasted back-breaking homers in the top of the sixth inning,
with Brandon Kaiser ripping a three-run shot and Cory Lane's
nailing a two-run bomb, to give the Bobcats a 15-10 win over
Murphy Saturday for the championship of the Murphy
Invitational at Mims Park. Dylan Stamey (1-1) scattered six
hits over 3Ð innings for the win. David Todd went 4-for-5
with two doubles and two RBIs, Matt Jackson went 3-for-4 and
Troy Andrews homered in the seventh for Theodore (5-2),
which meets Murphy again at 6 p.m. Friday at Mims Park. Matt
Cooper hit a three-run homer and Rusty Sarham took the loss
for the Panthers.
MARY MONTGOMERY 6, BAKER 5:
Dustin Evans broke a 5-5 tie in the bottom of the sixth with
a solo homer for the Vikings. Evans (2-0) also gave up five
runs on five hits for the win. Chance Stanley had two hits
and an RBI, while David Carter had three hits and two RBIs
for MGM (5-4), which visits Baker at 6 p.m. Friday. Phillip
McDuffie led the Hornets with two hits, including a two-run
homer, and three RBIs.
BLOUNT 6, LEFORE 4: Sylvester
Edwards (2-1) allowed two runs on five hits in seven innings
with seven strikeouts to lead the Leopards to the title of
the Inner City Classic. Janawski Davis and Kevin Coleman
each finished 3-for-5 with three RBIs for Blount (4-3),
which hosts LeFlore at 11 a.m. Saturday.
BRYANT 6, AUBURN 4: Logan
Kirkland hit a three-run triple and Josh Stringfellow added
a hit and an RBI for the Hurricanes (5-2). Tyler Mills (3-0)
allowed four runs on six hits with six strikeouts and a walk
in six innings. Bryant hosts Vigor for a 4 p.m. doubleheader
Tuesday.
BALDWIN COUNTY 11-1, GULF SHORES
4-2: Collin Blankenship (1-2) pitched a one-hitter in the
nightcap to gain the Dolphins a doubleheader split. Braydon
Bateman's double with one out in the bottom of the seventh
brought in Brian Johnston, who'd beat out an infield hit,
with the winning run. In the opener, Tucker Miller had a
two-run single and Ja Harville (1-0) pitched the first five
innings of Baldwin County's victory. Clay Gates had three
hits and Bateman stroked a two-run triple for Gulf Shores.
The Tigers (4-3) visit Davidson for a doubleheader at 4 p.m.
Friday. Gulf Shores (2-5) hosts Foley at 6 p.m. Friday.
ROBERTSDALE SPLITS: In a game
that featured 35 hits, reliever Tony Kucera preserved
Robertsdale's 18-17 win over Hartselle win by retiring the
only two batters he faced in the seventh. With runners on
first and second, Kucera picked the runner off second, then
got a strikeout to end the game. For the Golden Bears, Tres
Givens had four hits and six RBIs, Josh Baxter two hits and
four RBIs and Nick Thompson three hits, including a home
run. For Hartselle, Bill Swann had three hits and six RBIs
and Logan Cain three hits and five RBIs. Cullman beat
Robertsdale 6-3 behind Matthew Britton's three hits and
three RBIs. Chason Smith hit an RBI double and Isaac
Bradford lost in a complete game for the Golden Bears (3-5),
who visit Bryant at 5 p.m. Friday.
FOLEY 8-4, COTTAGE HILL 0-1:
Miles Merchant hit a grand slam in the opener as the Lions
swept. Taylor Wheaton (3-0) picked up the win in the opener,
allowing no runs on four hits with 11 strikeouts, and also
had two hits. Jamin Graham homered and had two RBIs. In game
two, Graham (1-1) earned the win, allowing one run on three
hits in 5Ò innings, Matthew Salter and Zach Hughes each had
two hits and Wheaton added two RBIs for Foley (5-2), which
visits Gulf Shores at 6:30 p.m. Friday.
SPANISH FORT 7, MCGILL-TOOLEN 5:
Wes Runnels hit a first-inning grand slam, and Troy Brown
pitched three innings of one-hit relief for the Toros (4-3),
who travel to Tallahassee, Fla., on Friday. Patrick McGavin
earned the save.
ST. PAUL'S WINS TWO: Blake
Mathews was a standout on the mound and at the plate as the
Saints defeated Dunham (La.) 13-3 and Plaquemine (La.) 9-3
at the Brusly Classic in Baton Rouge, La. Mathews went
4-for-6 on the day with two RBIs and a win against
Plaquemine. Against Dunham, D.J. Johnson had three hits and
two RBIs, and Ben Filligim went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Nathan
Morris got the win. Against Plaquemine, Dominique Francia
had two hits and an RBI, while Garrett Taylor homered for
the Saints (7-1), who visit Monroe County at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
FAITH ACADEMY 13, SATSUMA 7:
Taylor Nichols had three hits, two runs and two RBIs and the
Rams twice scored two runs on squeeze bunts by Chad Elliott
in the Johnny Poole Classic. Cody Christian had two hits and
two runs for the Gators. Josh Hollingsworth (1-0) gave up
four hits and three runs while striking out five in pitching
the first six innings for Faith (3-4), which hosts
Robertsdale at 2:30 p.m. and Theodore at 5 p.m. Saturday.
JACKSON WINS TWO: Jackson
defeated Demopolis 16-0 and Citronelle 7-5 to finish
undefeated in the Tombigbee Classic. Against Demopolis, Cody
Bayles and Tyler Wallace combined for a no-hitter. Bayles
also hit a grand slam, while Jeremy Armstead hit a three-run
homer and Sam Harbuck a three-run double. Against
Citronelle, Bayles drove in three runs, while JoJo Jackson
had three hits and Will Blount got the win in relief. The
Aggies (10-0) visit Clarke County at 5 p.m. Friday.
UMS-WRIGHT 7-1, MOBILE CHRISTIAN
1-7: Tucker Ward was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and Robert
Alexander, Evan Grovenstein and Lee English each added an
RBI for the Bulldogs in the opener. Chase Williamson (2-0)
struck out three in two innings for the win. In the
eight-inning nightcap, Mobile Christian's Jonathan Reed
broke a 1-1 tie in the extra inning with a three-run double.
Sterling McKinley went the distance for the Leopards,
striking out eight. Grovenstein gave up an earned run in
seven innings and finished with a no-decision. UMS-Wright
(3-3) visits McGill-Toolen at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
CLARKE COUNTY 13, MILLRY 8:
Brandon Pugh had two hits and three RBIs to lead the
Bulldogs (5-2) in the Tombigbee Classic. Payne Wilson (2-0)
tossed a four-inning one-hitter and added a double and three
RBIs. Dylan Whitsett paced Millry with a two-run homer.
Clarke County (5-2) hosts Jackson at 5 p.m. Friday.
LEROY WINS TWO: Clifton
Covington went 2-for-3 with a solo homer and two-run double
and Jarrett Davis (1-0) scattered five hits in six innings
as the Bears (7-1) beat Clarke County 5-3 in the Tombigbee
Classic. In a 17-10 win over Millry, A.J. Snow had five
hits, including a solo homer, Sammie Coates went 3-for-3
with three RBIs and Davis added two hits and three RBIs.
Chris Irvin got the win. Tee Wiley rapped a two-run double
and an RBI single to pace Millry. Leroy hosts Jackson in a 1
p.m. doubleheader Friday.
BAYSIDE ACADEMY 9, B.C. RAIN 4:
Geoffrey Brooks had two hits, including a two-run double,
and Daniel Beebe brought in runs with a sacrifice fly and an
RBI triple. John Stassen (2-0) struck out seven and gave up
four hits in pitching the first six innings for Bayside
(6-1), which travels to Jackson, Miss., Friday to play in
the Mid-Mississippi Classic. |
