Pirates Double Up Trojans

Mobile, AL (February 23, 2010) -- FAIRHOPE 10, DAPHNE 5: A six-run second inning helped put Fairhope in the finals of the BayBears Classic and set up a battle of unbeatens in the championship game tonight at 6.

Starting pitcher Daryl Norris went six innings and gave up five runs while striking out seven and walking two. He also had an RBI double.

Peyton Fuller drove in three runs for the Pirates, while Cody Etheridge and Justin Hathcock both went 2-for-4, with Etheridge hitting a two-run single and Hathcock a two-run double.

The Pirates erased a 2-0 Daphne lead in the top of the second when Hathcock doubled in two runs and scored on a throwing error, Chase Domino scored on a fielder's choice, and Fuller doubled in another pair of runs.

Daphne (3-1) scored in three of the last five innings.

In Other Games ...

ST PAUL'S 7, SATSUMA 2: A three-run sixth inning helped propel St. Paul's past Satsuma 7-2 in the semifinals of the BayBears Classic at Hank Aaron Stadium on Monday.

St. Paul's (4-0) faces Fairhope (4-0) in the finals tonight at 6.

Nathan Morris was the winning pitcher for the Saints (4-0), going five innings while striking out three and scattering six hits, and also had a two-run homer. Dominic Francia, Dalton Rentz and D. J. Johnson all went 2-for-3, with Rentz hitting an RBI triple and Johnson an RBI double. Johnson also stole two bases.

St. Paul's led 3-2 going into the sixth, and Rentz's RBI triple, plus two more runs scored as a result of throwing errors, gave the Saints a comfortable cushion.

"I challenged our kids to play good baseball," said St. Paul's coach Shane Sullivan. "We worked on base running the last two days, and it paid off."

Jacob Noble took the loss for Satsuma (3-1), giving up six runs on seven hits in 5Ò innings.

BRYANT 4, SPANISH FORT 2: Tyler Mills gave up only two runs in six innings, while Logan Kirkland and Ricky LaForce had key RBI doubles in Bryant's win over Spanish Fort in the BayBears Classic. Mills allowed five hits and walked only one, while LaForce and Kirkland each had RBI doubles off losing pitcher Rocky McCord. "Mills was consistent with his pitches, and Kirkland and LaForce stepped up with big hits," said Bryant coach David Sprinkle. "As a team, we played hard and had some good defense." Bryant faces Satsuma in the Johnny Poole Tournament on Thursday at 6 p.m.

BLOUNT 10, WILLIAMSON 9: Kevin Coleman stole home in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift Blount in the Inner-City Classic. Spencer Randle had three hits and three RBIs and Janawaski Davis had two hits and two RBIs for the Leopards (2-2), who continue tournament play today at 4 p.m. against LeFlore at Texas Street Park.

LEROY 11, CITRONELLE 1 (5): Clifton Covington had three hits and three RBIs and Joseph Alday added two hits and four RBIs as Leroy won in the Tombigbee Classic. Brent Reed allowed three hits and two walks and struck out three in 4Ð innings. Caleb Estabrook homered for Citronelle. Leroy (3-1) will play Demopolis tonight at 6:30.

CITRONELLE 3, MILLRY 1: Shaun Forister (1-0) allowed one run on eight hits in six innings with five strikeouts and three walks to lead Citronelle in the Tombigbee Classic in Leroy. Conner Griffin and Caleb Easterbrook were both 1-for-3 to lead the Wildcats. Citronelle (3-2) takes on Excel at 5 p.m. Thursday in Grove Hill.
