Pirates Pound Toros In
Season Opener

Fairhope,
AL (February 15, 2010) -- Daryl Norris tossed a
one-hitter, striking out eight batters in 6Ò innings as
Fairhope gave coach Stu Fuller -- who had open heart surgery
less than four weeks ago -- his 500th career coaching win.
"I don't know that it means so
much to me, but it is from a lot of kids over the years, a
lot of great kids and great ballclubs," Fuller said. "I
thought the kids played well tonight. It was pretty good for
a season opener -- only one error."
At the plate, Norris had a solo
homer and two RBIs, Kaleb Naseman went 2-for-3 with two RBIs
and Evan East and Chase Domino each had a double for the
Pirates.
Zac Fowler (0-1) gave up three
hits, six walks and four runs with two strikeouts in 3Ð
innings for the Toros.

AT FAIRHOPE
BALDWIN COUNTY 3, FAITH 0:
Justin Miller scattered two hits, striking out six batters
and stranding six runners in five innings as Baldwin County
blanked Faith at Volanta Park. Jansen Boeschen hit a
two-run homer, Tucker Miller added an RBI and Jacob Dean a
double for the Tigers (1-0), who face host Fairhope at 6:30
p.m. today. Taylor Nichols had a double, while James
Traylor (0-1) gave up four hits with four strikeouts and
stranded five runners for the Rams (0-1), who face Spanish
Fort at 4 p.m. today.
AT LIPSCOMB COMPLEX
MCGILL-TOOLEN 12, DAVIDSON 4:
McGill-Toolen rode the bat of Matt Wojciechowski and the
pitching of Michael Peck to a 12-4 victory over Davidson in
Monday's opener of the Hank Aaron Classic at the Archbishop
Lipscomb Complex. Wojciechowski had a grand slam, a
two-run homer and an RBI double to account for seven of
McGill-Toolen's 12 runs, while Peck struck out three batters
and allowed only one hit in four innings. Michael
Radoslovich went 3-for-4 with a two-run single and scored a
run, Josh McCarron went 2-for-4 and scored two runs, Toby
Thomas went 3-for-4 with an RBI single and Will Franklin
went 2-for-4 as the Yellow Jackets, who play at Archbishop
Lipscomb Field at 6:30 tonight against Theodore. "I
was very pleased with our effort," McGill-Toolen coach David
Weems said. "The guys played real hard and competed with
every single pitch. Wojciechowski has been spending a lot of
time in the batting cage, listening to coaches, and trusting
his swing, and Peck did a very nice job on the mound."
McGill-Toolen never trailed, scoring five runs in the bottom
of the first when McCarron scored on Thomas' single and
Wojciechowski cleared the bases moments later with a shot
over the left center-field fence. McCarron scored again in
the second on Matthew Zambo's grounder to give the Jackets a
6-0 lead. Matt Arguello had a two-run homer and an RBI
sacrifice fly for Davidson, which plays at 4 p.m. today
against St. Paul's at Archbishop Lipscomb Field.
ST. PAUL'S 10, THEODORE 7: Ben
Fillingim hit a three-run triple and scored on a throwing
error to cap the Saints' come-from-behind win. Fillingim
finished with four RBIs and Tanner McGill added two singles
and an RBI. Jacob Coker (1-0) threw two shut-out innings for
the Saints (1-0), who play Davidson today at 4 p.m. at
McGill-Toolen.
AT MIMS PARK
SATSUMA 3, COTTAGE HILL 2: Jamie
Patterson hit a solo home run with one out in the bottom of
the seventh to lead Satsuma. The Gators (1-0) play Bryant at
4 p.m. today. Jacob Noble was the winning pitcher, going
seven innings and allowing just two hits and four walks. He
struck out nine. Cody Broadus was 2-for-3 with a home run
and Taylor Adams also had two hits.
BRYANT 14, MURPHY 4: Logan
Kirkland and Tyler Mills each had three-run home runs,
Garrett Kirkland added a two-run shot, David Hale was
3-for-4 with two RBIs and Ricky Laforce was 3-for-4 with an
RBI for the Hurricanes (1-0), who play Satsuma at 4:30 p.m.
today. On the mound, Mills (1-0) gave up two runs on five
hits and struck out four in five innings.
AT FOLEY
FOLEY 4, GULF SHORES 1: Taylor
Wheaton went the distance for Foley, striking out 13 while
allowing just two hits and no earned runs. Matt Salter went
2-for-3 with two RBIs and Eric Fontaine added a two-run
double for the Lions, who play Robertsdale at 3:30 p.m.
today. Collin Blankenship took the loss, allowing four runs
on four hits with eight strikeouts over six innings for the
Dolphins, who play Daphne at 1 p.m. today.
DAPHNE 13, ROBERTSDALE 1: Russ
Mosley hit a grand slam and finished with five RBIs in a
game that was called after five innings. Brandon Peterson
fanned seven over five innings and added an RBI double for
the Trojans, who play Gulf Shores at 1 p.m. today.
Robertsdale plays Foley at 3:30 p.m. today.
AT MARY MONTGOMERY
BAKER 12, MARY MONTGOMERY 5:
Baker scored six runs in the first off MGM starter Daniel
McGibboney. Alex Summers went 3-for-4 with an RBI, Josh
Spicer added two hits and two RBIs and Jeremy Burch added
two RBIs for the Hornets (1-0). McGibboney led the Vikings
(0-1) with two hits and an RBI. Dalton Grissett added a pair
of hits and Dustin Evans drove in a run. Baker takes on UMS
today at 4 p.m., while the host Vikings face Thomasville at
6:30.
UMS-WRIGHT 8, THOMASVILLE 1:
Chase Williamson allowed just three base runners in five
innings and struck out eight in the win for the Bulldogs
(1-0). Robert Alexander had two hits and two RBIs. J.T.
Thompson and Ryan McGinty each had two hits for UMS. Brett
Skelton drove in the Tigers' run. |
