Robertsdale, Cottage Hill post victories in Hank Aaron Classic

AL (February 21, 2010) -- Faith Academy scored five runs
in the bottom of the sixth inning to edge Murphy 5-4 on
Saturday in the Hank Aaron Classic.
With Faith trailing 4-0,
Jonathan Brown hit a two-run double and James Traylor and
Taylor Nichols collected RBIs in Faith's big inning at Hank
Aaron Stadium.
Chad Elliott threw two innings
of one-hit relief for the pitching victory.
Austin York knocked in three
runs with two hits for Murphy.
Faith (1-3) plays Auburn, then
Satsuma starting at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Satsuma. Murphy
(1-3) plays Mary Montgomery in the Murphy Invitational at
6:30 p.m. Thursday at Mims Park.

THEODORE 2, GULF SHORES 1:
Brandon Hallford went the distance, striking out 12, and
Dylan Stamey scored from third on a wild pitch for the
go-ahead run in the top of the fifth inning. Hallford
allowed five hits and walked two, and Greg Conner went
2-for-3 with an RBI for the Bobcats (2-2), who play Baker in
the Murphy Invitational at 4 p.m. Thursday at Mims Park.
Collin Blankenship allowed six hits and struck out six with
one walk over six innings for Gulf Shores, which got an RBI
from Clay Gates. The Dolphins (1-3) visit Davidson at 5 p.m.
Thursday.
ROBERTSDALE 7, THOMASVILLE 3:
Robertsdale loaded the bases in the top of the seventh, then
scored one run on a wild pitch, two off an infield error and
another when an outfielder lost the ball in the sun. Josh
Baxter (1-1) went six innings, scattering seven hits and one
walk with seven strikeouts, while Isaac Bradford inherited a
no-out, bases-loaded situation and gave up only one run to
earn a save for the Golden Bears. Hunter Vaughn and Flynn
Woods had one RBI apiece and Chase Smith scored twice to
lead Robertsdale (1-3), which hosts Davidson, then McGill-Toolen
at 4 p.m. Friday. Zac Ross was 2-for-3 with two RBIs,
Charles Taylor 2-for-3 and Brett Green and Logan Bishop each
had a double for Thomasville (0-4), which visits Sweet Water
at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
COTTAGE HILL CHRISTIAN 15,
DAVIDSON 3: Luke Breland and Ethan Ganus each hit two-run
homers, and Trey Cockrell went 3-for-4 and pitched a
complete game, fanning eight and allowing four hits. Cody
Stokes knocked in four runs for Cottage Hill (1-3), which
hosts Fruitdale in a doubleheader at 5 p.m. Friday. Dario
James had two hits and an RBI for Davidson(0-4), which hosts
Gulf Shores at 5 p.m. Thursday.

BLOUNT 10, VIGOR 9: At the Inner
City Classic, Michael Risper had six steals to lead the
Leopards to their first win in two years. Kevin Coleman
(1-0) pitched four innings for the victory, allowing six
runs on three hits with five strikeouts and two walks.
Janawski Davis was 2-for-3 to lead Blount at the plate,
while Corey Trailer, Kendrick McMillian and Sylvester
Edwards had two RBIs apiece. The Classic continues on Monday
at LeFlore, where Blount (1-2) takes on Williamson at 4 p.m.
LEFLORE 5, WILLIAMSON 1: Winning
pitcher Carl Davis and LaDre Stephenson each drove in two
runs with two hits. Davis (2-0) gave up three hits and two
walks and struck out 10 in seven innings. LeFlore (3-0)
plays Vigor at 6:30 p.m. Monday at Figures Park.
CITRONELLE 11, SWEET WATER 10:
Arnold Sullivan pitched three innings of one-hit, scoreless
relief, striking out seven while preserving the Wildcats'
11-10 lead in the Tombigbee Classic in Grove Hill. For
Citronelle, Shaun Forester stroked a three-run triple and
Andrew Crane and winning pitcher Conner Griffin had two hits
apiece. Crane hit a two-run triple and Griffin an RBI
double. Citronelle (2-1) visits Leroy on Monday to continue
the Classic, facing Millry at 4 p.m. and Leroy at 6:30.
CLARKE COUNTY 5, SWEET WATER 3:
Deondre Love (1-0) threw two-hit ball over six innings,
striking out 13 in Grove Hill in the Tombigbee Classic.
Rashad Snell and Will Wiggins each had two hits and an RBI,
while Payne Wilson connected on an RBI double for Clarke
County.
CLARKE COUNTY 7, CITRONELLE 6:
With one out in the bottom of the seventh inning, Braxton
Early knocked in the game-tying and -winning runs in the
Tombigbee Classic. Rashad Snell collected four hits,
including a double and triple. Payne Wilson (1-0) earned the
win for Clarke County (3-0), which visits Jackson at 6:30
p.m. Tuesday.
JACKSON 7, GREENVILLE 5: JoJo
Jackson, J.D. Mitchell and Sam Harbuck had two hits apiece
as Jackson won in the Demopolis Invitational. Jackson scored
three runs, and Mitchell slapped a two-run double. Will
Blount took the mound with the score tied 5-5 and two on
base and finished the game with 2Ò innings of one-hit
relief.
JACKSON 13, DEMOPOLIS 2: The
Aggies finished 3-0 in the Demopolis Invitational with their
second victory on Saturday. Dustin Moseley pitched a
five-inning complete game, giving up three hits and striking
out six. JoJo Jackson had four hits and two RBIs, Cody
Bayles hit a two-run double and Josh Kimbel and Jeremy
Armstead had two hits apiece. On Tuesday, Jackson (5-0)
hosts Millry at 4 p.m. and Clarke County at 6:30 in the
Tombigbee Classic.
LEROY 13, GREENVILLE 10: Clifton
Covington had four hits and four RBIs as Leroy bounced back
from a 9-2 loss to Wetumpka in the Demopolis Invitational.
A.J. Snow and Will Gartman added two hits and an RBI apiece
to back winning pitcher Justin Besteda. Besteda (1-0) gave
up six runs on four hits and five walks in four innings.
Leroy (1-1) hosts Citronelle at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the
Tombigbee Classic.
BAYSIDE 12, J.U. BLACKSHER 1:
Joe Vincent (1-0) threw four-hit ball, striking out four
over five innings in the Excel Invitational. Geoffrey Brooks
had an RBI double and Justin Raines collected two hits for
Bayside (3-1).
EXCEL 6, BAYSIDE 1: Cole Welch
(1-0) pitched a two-hitter, striking out 12 and walking one,
and also delivered a two-run double.
EXCEL 9, MONROE COUNTY 2: The
Panthers finished 3-0 in the Excel Invitational to win their
tournament. Matthew Rowell (2-0) pitched a four-hitter,
striking out 12 and walking two. Hunter Lewis knocked in
three runs with a single and a sacrifice fly, Rowell had
three hits and Kyle Benson and Brad Mitchell had two RBIs
apiece. Excel (5-0) visits Leroy at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the
Tombigbee Classic. |
