Foley tops Mary
Montgomery at Hank Aaron Stadium

AL (February 20, 2010) -- Taylor Wheaton struck out 13,
and a six-run rally in the bottom of the sixth inning
propelled Foley to an 8-4 win over Mary Montgomery in the
BayBears High School Classic at Hank Aaron Stadium Friday
night.
Matthew Salter's two-run double
and Dylan Summerville's two-run single capped the rally for
the Lions (3-1). Salter doubled, tripled and drove in three
runs, Summerville had two hits and two RBIs and Wheaton
added two hits and two RBIs. Dustin Evans led the Vikings
(2-2) with three hits and an RBI, and David Carter had two
hits and two RBIs.
MCGILL-TOOLEN 4, BAKER 1: Toby
Thomas had two hits and two RBIs for McGill-Toolen (3-1) in
the BayBears High School Classic at Hank Aaron Stadium. Will
Franklin and Michael Peck limited Baker (2-2) to just four
hits, three from Josh Spicer, and Bret Underwood drove in
the Hornets' only run with a sacrifice fly.
LEFLORE 16, VIGOR 6: Chris Polk,
Carl Davis and Eglon Mitchell led the Rattlers with two hits
each. Joseph Pough (1-0) allowed two runs on one hit in four
innings to pick up the win for LeFlore (2-0), which meets
Williamson at 11 a.m. today in the Inner City Classic at
Blount.
JACKSON 6, WETUMPKA 1: Cody
Bayles fired a five-inning no-hitter with seven strikeouts
and added an RBI, and Sam Harbuck had two RBIs and Windham
Jackson an RBI double for the Aggies (3-0), who meet
Greenville at 11 a.m. today in the Demopolis Invitational.
B.C. RAIN 16, BLOUNT 2: Brandon
Kyser, Sam Young and Omar Smith combined for a no-hitter,
Smith had two hits and five RBIs, Ledarrius Sigler drove in
four runs and Ronnie Abrams added two RBIs for Rain (1-1),
which hosts Mary Montgomery at 6 p.m. Monday.
CLARKE COUNTY 6, MILLRY 4: Aaron
Turner scattered five hits over six innings and struck out
six for a road win. Will Wiggins had two hits and two RBIs,
while Clay Weaver and Deondre Love each drove in a run for
Clarke County (1-0), which hosts Sweet Water at noon today
before taking on Citronelle at 5 p.m.
BAYSIDE 4, MONROE COUNTY 2: John
Stassen (1-0) struck out 11 hitters in a 3-hitter in the
Excel tournament. Joby Allen had two hits and Justin Raines
added an RBI double for the Admirals (2-0), who continue in
the tournament today at 10 a.m.
MOBILE CHRISTIAN 12, WILLIAMSON
0: The Leopards opened the season with a one-hitter as
Sterling McKinley, Trey Chambers, Ryan Stevens, Chance
Praytor and Will Mesbergen -- each pitching one inning --
combined on a 10-strikeout shutout. Praytor had a two-run
double and Chambers a two-run triple for Mobile Christian,
which had 12 batters hit by a pitch or walked to go with six
hits. The Leopards host B.C. Rain at 6 p.m. Thursday.
LEROY 7, DEMOPOLIS 2: Will
Blount (1-0) struck out seven in a three-hitter, A.J. Snow
went 3-for-4 with an RBI and William Gartman added a two-run
double for the Bears (1-0), who meet Wetumpka at 11 a.m.
today. Chris Ervin threw three innings of one-hit relief
with six strikeouts.
WASHINGTON COUNTY 8-12,
FRUITDALE 3-2: Caleb Beech pitched six solid innings in the
first game and Dane Howard pitched five in the second as
Washington County (2-2) swept a doubleheader at home. Beech
allowed four hits and struck out nine in Game 1. Butch
Abston was 3-for-3 with a homer and three RBIs, and Howard
and Beech had two RBIs each. In the nightcap, Howard allowed
just two hits and struck out four, and had two hits and two
RBIs. The Bulldogs visit Demopolis at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
EXCEL 5, J.U. BLACKSHER 4:
Matthew Rowell hit a bases-loaded single in the bottom of
the sixth to break a 4-4 tie and send Excel (3-0) to a win
in its invitational. Dawson Turberville got the win with two
innings of scoreless, hitless relief, and he also doubled,
tripled, drove in a run and stole home. Excel plays Bayside
Academy at 12:30 p.m. and Monroe County at 5 today in the
tournament. |
